What is Practice World?

Practice World is a downloadable developer test kit that runs on your computer. It gives developers a small, simulated order-and-refund system where an AI agent can practice handling things going wrong. We deliver the kit; you run and connect your own agent.

For example: your agent requests a refund. The refund succeeds, but the response disappears. Should the agent retry? Retrying incorrectly could issue a second refund. Practice World lets you observe that decision using fake orders and fake money, then inspect what happened.

Four problems to practice

• A missing response: recover when a refund succeeds but the agent receives a timeout.
• A changed retry: handle a retry that reuses the same request key with a different refund amount.
• A “please wait” response: recover from a rate limit without retrying too soon.
• An order that changes: respond when an order ships before a cancellation can complete.

What you receive

A fixed ZIP containing the Python simulator, four drills, scripted reference clients, an agent command-line interface, setup instructions, tests, and tools for scoring and replaying attempts. Runs can produce readable reports and detailed action logs. The examples demonstrate careful and flawed behavior; they are scripts, not an AI model.

How to use it

1. Download and unzip. Use Python 3.10+ on macOS or Linux and open a terminal in the extracted folder.
2. Run the examples. Follow START_HERE.md to see the drills, reports, and replay tools.
3. Connect your own agent. You or your engineer build an adapter around the documented Python command-line interface so your agent chooses actions and receives observations. Review its scores and logs afterward.

The kit itself runs offline without model credentials or API calls. Your own agent or model may have separate requirements and costs. This is not an automatic ChatGPT or Claude plug-in.
