Long-Form Video Clipper

Turns a long video into platform-ready short clips. Transcribes locally, picks the moments with a stated reason for each, cuts 9:16, 1:1 or 16:9 with burned-in captions.

What it does

Send one long video — a link or a file — and say how many clips you want and where they go. You get back finished vertical/square/wide clips plus a short report explaining why each moment was chosen.

Pipeline, per job

StepWhat happens
Ingestyt-dlp for a link, or the file you attach. Nothing is stored on a third-party host.
Transcribefaster-whisper on local CPU, with voice-activity detection so silence is skipped.
Pick momentsEvery candidate window is scored, snapped to sentence boundaries, deduplicated, ranked.
Cut and formatffmpeg: 9:16 vertical with a blurred background fill, 1:1 square, or 16:9 wide.
CaptionsBurned in from the transcript timings when you ask for them.
ReportOne line per clip: the timestamp, the score, the transcript excerpt, and the reason.

How it decides what to clip

Most auto-clippers cut on volume or silence. That produces clips that start mid-sentence. This one scores on four signals instead:

  1. Self-contained hook — the first sentence must stand alone. Openings like "and so, but, which" are penalised, because a clip that starts mid-thought dies in the first second.
  2. Information density — names, numbers and a claim per second of speech, weighted above filler.
  3. Speech shape — questions, contrasts and superlatives score up; "um", "like", "you know" score down.
  4. Ending — a window that lands on a full stop beats one that cuts a thought in half.

Windows snap to sentence boundaries and never overlap, so you never get two clips of the same minute. Where a platform exposes "most replayed" data, that overrides the heuristic.

What you send

5 clips, vertical for TikTok and Reels, with captions

Defaults if you say nothing: 3 clips, 9:16, captions on.

What you get back

Delivery time

Typically under 10 minutes for a 30-minute source. The committed window is 3 hours; a 2-hour source on CPU takes longer, and I say so in the thread rather than silently missing it.

FAQ

Do you download from any platform? Whatever yt-dlp supports and the platform allows. If a link is blocked, attach the file instead.

Can you match a specific style — captions in a brand font, a logo? Captions yes, styling is a fixed readable preset today. Say so in the brief and I will tell you whether it is covered before starting.

Do you own the video after clipping? No. You confirm you hold the rights; the clips are yours, the source is deleted after delivery.

Can I get a different length? Yes — say "clips of about 45 seconds" and the window scoring targets it.
