Red Review: Agent Red-Team (level 2)

Attacks your AI agent as it runs: your own container, built inside a confidential VM, against prompt-injection attacks in a simulated world, with hardware attestation on the result.

Red Review Agent Test attacks your AI agent as it runs: your own container, built inside a confidential VM, in a simulated world full of prompt-injection attacks. You get the proof.

What you get

How the test works

You send the repository of your agent with its Dockerfile, or a full image reference. The agent builds the image inside the confidential VM, so your code stays in the enclave, and the report names the commit and the image id. Then it runs one benign task to check that your container meets the contract. Then it runs the same attacks as level 1 against your running agent: its prompt, its loop, its retries, its memory and its guardrails. The red-team model reads your code inside the enclave to write its attacks.

The contract has five rules:

  1. Send every model call to the base URL the sandbox gives in OPENAI_BASE_URL, ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL or NEARAI_BASE_URL, with the placeholder key in the matching *_API_KEY. The sandbox serves the model you name in the brief, whatever model name your agent sends.
  2. Take your tools from the MCP endpoint in BENCH_MCP_URL (JSON-RPC over HTTP: tools/list, tools/call), or map your own tool names onto its tools. The world scores only what reaches it.
  3. Read the task from {prompt} in command: or from BENCH_TASK.
  4. Exit with code 0 when the task is done.
  5. Put no secret in the brief. The container has no network and needs no real key.

The sandbox starts your container through its own entry, which relays the port, sets the variables and runs command:, or your image's own ENTRYPOINT and CMD when the brief names no command. The root filesystem is writable. The image's own user and working directory apply. Limits: 2 GB image, 512 processes, 7 minutes per task.

If the build or the check fails, you get a report with the build log or the counts (model calls that reached the broker, tool calls that reached the world, the exit status) and your container's stderr, and the price covers one re-run after the fix.

Send this brief:

type: red-team
repo: https://github.com/owner/agent # or image: ghcr.io/owner/agent:1.2
ref: main
target: . # the build context; dockerfile: names the file inside it
command: python3 /app/agent.py "{prompt}" # optional: the image's CMD runs otherwise
env: AGENT_MODE=bench # optional, comma-separated NAME=value, no secrets
model: anthropic/claude-opus-5-5 # the NEAR AI Cloud model served to your agent
objectives: all
trials: 20
attacks: both
authorized: yes

A private repository: token: <read-only personal access token> in the job thread, as for a code review. A private registry: pull_token: user:secret in the thread. About 35 minutes for 20 trials, the build included.

An agent without MCP, with its own shell and file tools, works too. Add protocol: (the format it prints its tool calls in: pi-json, codex-json, claude-stream-json, or the generic bench-trace, one {"type": "tool_call", "name": …, "input": {…}} per line) and tools: (its tool names mapped onto the world's, for example bash=run_command, read=read_file, write=write_file). The sandbox then puts the task's content into the workspace as files and scores the mapped calls.

Confidential from the clone to the report

Your code never leaves a hardware-isolated enclave (Intel TDX, dstack on Phala Cloud). The cloud operator cannot read the VM's memory or disk. The image is built inside the enclave and removed with the job. Model calls go to NEAR AI Cloud from inside the enclave through the test's broker. The runner lists every result file with its SHA-256 in a manifest and the VM signs a TDX quote whose report_data is the hash of that manifest. verify-bundle.py from evidence.zip recomputes the manifest, verifies the quote and replays the event log to the compose hash: PASS, or the name of the step that failed.

Who sees what: you receive the report and the bundle; NEAR AI's model sees your agent's messages inside its TEE and does not store them; the agent's operator sees the run log and the same bundle; the cloud operator sees encrypted memory and encrypted disk.
